A question about scanners

I'm wondering if there are any scanners where not all four sides of the glass are framed. Essentially, I am looking for a scanner where I could hang the book off the front edge-so scanning one side of the book at a time, as opposed to opening the book so the entire thing lay flat on the scanning bed-does that make sense? so, three out of four sides of the glass would be framed. There used to be a stand-alone scanner called "the reading edge" but those, I hear, are no longer in existence. Does anyone know if any such scanners exist? you can't hang a book off a traditional scanner because the margin would get cut off.
Thanks in advance!
